Some refrigerator filters twist. This one doesn't β the FPPWFU01 uses a push-to-release, push-to-lock design, which sounds like a small thing until you're the one standing there at 11pm trying to figure out why your old filter won't budge. No twisting, no guessing which direction, just push and it's out.
This is Frigidaire's genuine PurePour PWF-1 filter, and it's specifically built for the newer generation of Frigidaire and Electrolux fridges that mount the filter housing on the ceiling of the fridge compartment rather than down in the base grille β worth checking before you order, since that housing style is the easiest way to confirm you've got the right filter for your model.
Filtration performance, not just marketing claims
Frigidaire publishes actual reduction percentages for this filter, tested under NSF/ANSI 42 and 53:
- Cysts: 99.99% reduction
- Chlorine taste & odor: 97.5% reduction
- Turbidity (cloudiness): 98.8% reduction
- Class I particulates: 99.0% reduction
The carbon block inside is activated at roughly 1000Β°C, which is what gives it that high surface area for trapping contaminants without stripping out the minerals that make water taste like water instead of nothing.
Swapping it takes about three minutes, and you don't even need to shut off the water supply
- Turn off the ice maker first.
- Push firmly on the face of the old cartridge until it releases, then slide it straight out.
- Line up the new filter with the guide and slide it in until it stops.
- Push until you hear the click β that's it locking into place.
- Hold a glass under the dispenser for 3β4 minutes to flush out trapped air (some sputtering at the start is completely normal, not a sign anything's wrong).
- Turn the ice maker back on.
- Hold the filter reset button for about 3 seconds until the indicator turns green
