EveryDrop EDR3RXD1 Refrigerator Water Filter 3
Replace your used refrigerator filter with the genuine EveryDrop EDR3RXD1 Refrigerator Water Filter 3. This Whirlpool OEM cartridge is designed for select refrigerators that use a push-button Filter 3 housing, normally located in the bottom front grille.
The EDR3RXD1 replaces several older Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, JennAir and Kenmore filter numbers, including 4396841, 4396710, W10193691, P1WB2 and P1WB2L. Check the part number printed on your existing cartridge or confirm your refrigerator model before ordering.
Why Choose the Genuine EveryDrop Filter 3?
The current EDR3RXD1 uses advanced Triple Filtration Technology powered by a renewable coconut-shell activated carbon core.
Water passes through three filtration stages:
-
Large-particle filtration
-
Medium-size micro-filtration
-
Targeted microscopic absorption
This process is designed to reduce specified substances that can affect the quality, taste and odor of refrigerator water and ice.
Certified to Reduce 74 Contaminants
The current genuine EveryDrop Filter 3 is certified to reduce 74 specified contaminants, including heavy metals, volatile organic compounds and 99% of microplastics. This is an updated performance claim; some older retailer pages still describe the filter as reducing 66 contaminants.
Contaminant-reduction claims apply only to the substances and percentages listed in the official performance data sheet.
NSF 42, 53 and 401 Certified
The EDR3RXD1 filtration system is tested and certified under three major NSF/ANSI standards:
-
NSF/ANSI 42: Chlorine taste, odor and specified particulate reduction
-
NSF/ANSI 53: Specified health-related contaminants, including lead, cysts, mercury and selected VOCs
-
NSF/ANSI 401: Specified emerging contaminants, including microplastics and selected pharmaceutical and chemical compounds
The current performance data sheet and NSF listing confirm certification under NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53 and 401.

EveryDrop is Whirlpool Corporation’s official refrigerator water-filter brand. Filter 3 is developed for selected refrigerators from:
Compatibility depends on the refrigerator model and filter housing, not the appliance brand alone. EveryDrop Filter 1, Filter 2, Filter 3 and other numbered cartridges are not interchangeable.

How to Install EDR3RXD1 Filter 3
Filter 3 is generally installed in a push-button housing located in the refrigerator’s bottom front grille.
-
Locate the filter and release button in the bottom grille.
-
Press the release button completely.
-
Pull the old cartridge straight out.
-
Remove the reusable filter cap from the old cartridge when applicable.
-
Attach the cap to the new EDR3RXD1.
-
Align the new filter with the housing.
-
Push the cartridge into the opening until the release button pops back out.
-
Gently pull the filter cap to confirm that the cartridge is locked securely.
-
Reset the refrigerator’s filter-status light according to the appliance manual.
EveryDrop’s installation guidance describes pressing the eject button, removing and reattaching the filter cap, and pushing the new cartridge into the base grille until the button pops out.
Flush the Filter Before Drinking
After installation, flush approximately four gallons of water through the refrigerator dispenser.
Flushing helps:
-
Remove air trapped in the water line
-
Clear loose carbon particles from the new cartridge
-
Stabilize the dispenser’s water flow
-
Prepare the filter for normal use
Whirlpool recommends running four gallons of water through the line after replacing most EveryDrop refrigerator filters.
Temporary sputtering, cloudy water or an uneven stream immediately after installation is often caused by trapped air. Continue dispensing until the water appears clear and the flow becomes steady.
When Should EDR3RXD1 Be Replaced?
Replace EveryDrop Filter 3 every six months or 200 gallons, whichever comes first.
Earlier replacement may be needed when:
-
The filter-status light turns red
-
Water flow becomes slower
-
Water develops an unusual taste or odor
-
Ice begins to taste different
-
The household uses a large amount of dispenser water
-
The incoming water contains more sediment than usual
Whirlpool recommends replacing EveryDrop refrigerator filters every six months, although usage and water quality may require more frequent replacement.
